Sebastian Meissner
born: 1969 Częstochowa, Poland —- lives & works: Berlin, Germany
Since the mid 90s I have been using computer software to create sound and compose music. I work with computer sounds, samples, recordings of classic instruments and field-recordings. Since 2010 I have shifted my focus to writing and producing radio documentaries for German public broadcasters.
My audio works were released by labels such as Mille Plateaux, Kompakt and Anticipate Recordings. I have also many works scattered over other labels such us Cronica, Raster Noton, Sub Rosa and others. For my releases I have mostly used aliases and project names. A few are: Klimek, Random Inc, Bizz Circuits and Autopoieses.
I have performed - alone or with collaborators - on five continents at venues and festivals such as Transmediale, CTM, Schirn Kunsthalle, Sonar, Steirischer Herbst, Mutek, Sonic Acts, EME, Unsound, Dissonanze, Lincoln Center in New York and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival.
I have contributed sound works for several stage plays, performance pieces, films and created installations and participative art projects for ORF Musikprotokoll, RAI Cinema, Schirn Kunsthalle, ARTE, Festival of Jewish Culture in Krakow and Al-Balad Theater in Amman.
For the last couple of years I have been writing, directing and producing radio features and radio dramas for German public broadcasters such as Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and WDR3. You will find some of my radio productions in the "RADIO FEATURES" section of this page.
In September 2015 I launched GOULDEN, a singe vinyl copy release platform with 11 kLIMEK albums which are illustrated with hand-drawn artwork by Emily Hochman.
I studied Sociology, American Culture Studies and Social Pedagogy at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and I am interested in the theory of identity, sociology of religions, urban research and music history.
