Deutsch: Im Voodoo hat Wasser eine besondere Bedeutung: Es ist das Reich der Ahnen, in das wir nach dem Tod zurückkehren. Nachdem Hurrikan Katrina New Orleans zu 80 Prozent im Wasser versinken ließ, hat Voodoo in der Stadt neuen Zulauf.
Als Ina Fandrich nach ihrem Theologie-Studium in Würzburg in den 1980er-Jahren nach New Orleans zog, ahnte sie nicht, dass sie einmal selbst Voodoo-Priesterin werden würde. Streng katholisch erzogen interessierte sie sich für die Geschichte und Bräuche dieser Religion, die durch die Unterdrückung der Sklaven auch stark vom Katholizismus beeinflusst ist. Besonders Marie Laveau faszinierte Fandrich, eine einflussreiche Voodoo-Priesterin im New Orleans des 19. Jahrhunderts.

English: In Voodoo, water has a special meaning: it is the realm of the ancestors, into which we return after death. After Hurricane Katrina drove 80% of New Orleans under water, Voodoo is becoming a larger attraction.
When Ina Fandrich moved to New Orleans after her studies in theology in Würzburg in the 1980s, she did not realize that she would become a voodoo priestess. Raised strictly catholic, she was interested in the history and customs of Voodoo, which is strongly influenced by Catholicism. Fandrich was especially fascinated by Marie Laveau, an influential voodoo priestess in New Orleans of the 19th century.
